Tile Roofs
Tile roofs are the oldest manufactured roofing material used throughout history, first brought to America in the 17th century by European settlers. Due to tile’s durability and fire resistance the trend has stuck and for good reason, tile has one of the longest life expectancies of any roof covering available. When choosing between Clay or Concrete tiles there are some differences to note.
Clay Tiles
Clay tiles are made by a process of baking moulded clay at high temperatures. The clay tiles are not prone to fading due to the high temperature in the kiln causing the color to bond to the material. The natural source of the material also makes it an attractive eco-friendly option. Clay tiles produce a vibrancy that will naturally increase the longer they are in place and can last anywhere from 50-75 years with a Lifetime Manufacturer’s Warranty. The inherent difference between Clay and Concrete Roofs is that clay tiles weigh more than concrete tiles, so you will need to ensure your roof can support the weight.

Concrete Tiles
Concrete tiles are made using a mixture of sand, water, and cement with color added then finished with a heat and pressure treatment. Concrete tile is more cost effective than clay, but still incredibly strong. If the concrete roof is properly installed with regular maintenance, the roof can last the lifetime of the home. Keep in mind that unlike the clay tile, concrete tiles will fade over time.
